Poetry Slam

Yesterday I went to an evening full of poetry! I loved it!

performing poets : Mwila Mambwe • Simric Yarrow • Lucille Greeff • Tania van Schalkwyk • Dr. Sindiwe Magona (amazing woman, from muizenberg, worked for UN, wrote more than 35 children’s book, don’t call her Mama; will get her latest book!!!!!!) • Poetic Pilgrimage (UK Guests) – it was organized by Badilisha! Poetry X-Change.

“Badilisha! Poetry X-Change hot on the trails of its May 2010 Live events at the Cape Town City Hall and the launch of its pioneering online Badilisha Poetry Radio platform www.badilishapoetry.com, collaborates with Cape Creative Exhibition to showcase 15 diverse City-based poets on Friday evenings  25th  June , 2nd and 9th July from 6pm – 7:30pm in a series called Fire Word Fridays! Each session will present 5 wordsmiths in a potent mix of voices and genre to offer audiences a platter of poetry with something warm and juicy for everyone’s palate this Winter. MC for all 3 Friday sessions : Writer-Poet Mbali Vilakazi

Badilisha! Live is a platform for poetry enthusiasts and poets to reflect on this art form whilst enjoying the excellence of live performance. Since the liberating forces of performance and spokenword  poetic styles, the art form has become more accessible to a wider audience. Poetry, like all art forms, needs to be celebrated as well as critiqued and in the spirit of exchange, live performances in combination with conversations and skills sharing, can be such a space.”

There’s another one you don’t wanna miss this coming Friday @6 @The Fringe Arts in 37 Main Road Greenpoint! Enjoy.
